Caroline Wisniewski was my great-grandmother. My brother and I called her "Nanny." I was priviledged to grow up with four generations of my family living in the same state for all of my childhood. I remember spending many days and nights at Nanny's house, and I still relish the memories I have of the delicious, home-cooked meals she made for us.

Nanny always helped me out when I was growing up, in the direct ways - applying iondine to a scraped knee or allowing me to interview her for a school report - as well as the indirect ways - she's the person in my life who most inspired me to learn to cook from scratch and, more importantly, she taught me the importance of supporting and loving family, no matter the effort.

As Nanny aged, where once she was the foundation supporting all of us, she began to need help herself. Thanks to programs like those at LifePath, Nanny's daughter, my great-aunt, was able to care for her in a home they shared together. And every day, Nanny received a hot lunchtime meal from a friendly Meals on Wheels driver.

Nanny passed away during the summer between my sophomore and junior years of college, while I was studying abroad in Asia. Even though I was not there to say goodbye, I know that she would have wanted me to work hard to help those who have given so much, but are now unable to fully care for themselves alone.

That's why I am organizing a team to take part in the annual Meals on Wheels Walkathon on Saturday, April 29, 2017. Please join my team as a fellow walker or simply pledge your support.

With your help, we can ensure that hundreds of homebound elders will get a hot, balanced meal delivered by a compassionate, volunteer driver in a manner that ensures their privacy and dignity. Your pledge means that LifePath can continue to say "yes" to elders who request their help.

Every penny of your pledge stays in the community. Meals on Wheels now delivers over 120,000 meals a year to elders in 30 towns including all of Franklin County as well as the North Quabbin.

So please, join me in supporting Meals on Wheels. When the time comes, it's what we all would want, for our families, friends, and even ourselves.

Thank you!

ABOUT Meals on Wheels Walkathon--2017

If you knew your elderly neighbor was too frail or sick to cook for themselves tonight, would you bring them a meal? Of course you would!

So would I. That’s why I’m walking in the 25th annual Meals on Wheels Walkathon on Saturday, April 29. You can help ensure that over 1,000 elders per year in Franklin County and the North Quabbin who need it can get a hot, balanced meal AND wellness check by a compassionate volunteer driver 5 days/week.

Please donate today. Every dollar you give stays in the community and goes directly to support Meals on Wheels.

Thank you!
